AERIAL ARTS
This circus class focuses entirely on aerial apparatus. Silks, Spanish web, trapeze, lyra and straps are among the featured skills. Students will learn to create their own aerial routines with musicality and flow. Taught by Sylvia Hernandez-DiStasi, Mandi Michalski and Jill Heyser. With members of Be the Groove - a Chicago-based rhythmic performance ensemble - students will explore new ways to make rhythm using the body. If you've ever wondered how to do cool snap rhythms or wanted to learn crazy stomping like in STOMP THE YARD, then this is the class for you! We will cover beatboxing, body percussion (snaps and footwork), and movement inspired by rhythmic dance, like stepping, gumboot, and hip hop. Taught by BTG ensemble member Kevin Brown.

CIRCUS ARTS
Students gain an introduction to the Circus Arts, developing a basic skill set while increasing their strength and flexibility. Silks, lyra, unicycling, juggling, stilt-walking, tightrope, trapeze, and Spanish web are among the skills offered. While no acrobatic experience is necessary to enroll in the Level I (Beginning) classes, it is recommended that participants be in good physical health. CONTORTION

NEW! Drum Theatre
In the spirit of Stomp!, Blue Man Group, and Hephaestus, this ensemble drumming class focuses on percussive expression, movement and story-telling. With the instructor, students will create a fully realized drum theatre piece which they will perform on the last day of class. Participants should have a good sense of rhythm, but formal percussion experience is not required. Taught by Jarrett Dapier.
